ブランドとは
製品の名称
CPU のブランドは、製品の名称です。基本的に CPU はブランド名から性能の高さを概ね把握できるようになっています。同じブランドの製品であっても、製品によって性能は異なりますので、性能の高さを重視するならブランドだけでなくプロセッサー・ナンバー、またはモデル・ナンバーも確認して選ぶ必要があります。

2015年8月15時点では、複数のマイクロアーキテクチャ、もしくは開発コードネームに同じブランドの CPU が存在しますが、どのマイクロアーキテクチャ、もしくは開発コードネームの CPU なのかは、プロセッサー・ナンバーで判断できます。
ブランドの立ち位置は Core i7 が高性能、Core i5 と Core i3 が標準的な性能、Pentium と Celeron が低性能となります。ただし、各ブランドには性能が異なる製品が多数存在しますので、上位ブランドの中で低性能な製品よりも下位ブランドの中で高性能な製品の方が、性能が高い場合があります。
Broadwell の Core M、Bay Trail-M の Pentium と Celeron、Braswell の Pentium と Celeron は、性能を犠牲に低消費電力と低発熱を実現していますので、CPU 全体で見るとブランドの立ち位置は低性能です。

2015年7月17日時点では、Kaveri の FX、A シリーズ搭載ノートパソコンが主流です。
Beema と Carrizo-L の CPU は、低消費電力と低発熱だけでなく価格が安いという特長もありますので、低価格な小型ノートパソコンでは、Beema の A シリーズ、E シリーズ、Carrizo-L の A シリーズ、E シリーズが見られます。
